Lengthen Your Sign Sledge for under $10
|
|
|
|
- Go to hardware store: Buy one length of 1 1/4” PVC (make sure it’s 1 1/4”)
plumbing pipe and one black rubber Fernco fitting (a Fernco is essentially a black rubber hose with two hose clamps). You need to buy a 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” fernco as they don’t make them any smaller. Don’t
worry, this will work fine!
- Buy a nut driver (easier) or a 5 in 1 screw driver (if you buy a 5 in 1
remove the tip so that the socket can be used for the nut on the hose clamp)
- You can use a regular screw driver but, it’s easier and faster to use the tools mentioned above.
- Once you have your parts, here’s what you do. Cut the pipe to what ever length you want or leave full length.
- Attach the Fernco to the piece of 1 1/4” pipe and tighten
- Remove the end cap from the Sign Sledge
- Insert the Sign Sledge (You want at least 2’ (two feet) of the sign sledge to be
inside the larger pipe for strength and safety)
- Tighten the Fernco and that’s it.
Have fun! I usually break out the big guns when I find my Signs disappearing. After employing this technique, you will laugh every time you
drive by your sign :)

Installs Coroplast, wood & aluminum Signs
|
|
|
|
For wood or metal signs, just pre-set your nails (let tip of nail protrude a little).
All metal Cap nails are recommended for wood signs and are the best for all signs although plastic cap nails may be used on
coroplast without any problems.
Plastic cap nails last about 100 times longer than staples
All metal cap nails are the best and are estimated at 900 times better holding power as compared to staples.
